I grew up in
South Dakota and was surrounded by music my entire childhood. Though we didn't
have money my mom let me take voice lessons for a few years when I was young.
I was always singing everywhere I went. And since I learned to play piano
and eventually was the church organist for 5 years I was always around music
of some form. I participated in every singing and instrumental group available
in high school and then selected for Augustana College's Concert Choir for
my four-year college tenure. During that time I acquired a music minor with
my business degree from Augustana. I always thought I would be promoting music
somewhere.
After college I participated in church choirs wherever I lived.
In 2004 I formed a quartet called the Presbytonians with some church pals.
After moving to Vancouver a few years ago I search out a community choir to
get my choral fix. I stumbled across Touch of Class in 2011. I'm enjoying
the experience of singing in a larger group as well as meeting many wonderful
new people.
I am married to Keith and have a son, Jack. I sang to Jack every
day when he was small. I still sing to him, but I don't think it has the same
effect. He learned to play cello, flute and is now onto the guitar . . . because
it is cool! I don't care. I just want him to have music in his life. My husband
joined the choir this season. He never grew up with music the way I did. He
doesn't read music nor had much choral experience. But like me he is enjoying
the camaraderie of the people and the sound that we produce. We love Vancouver
and are happy we stumbled across Touch of Class.
