How To Write An Introduction Outline:
When you actually sit down to write your introduction you should have already created a basic outline for the rest of the paper. By now you will also have wanted to have composed a draft of your thesis as well has completed your preliminary research.
Before you can write your introduction you must also select the three main evidence points that you intend to use for you paper. These three evidence points should back up your thesis and come with strong examples that prove your main points.
Once you have completed these steps you should be able to answer the big W questions that you will need to cover in your introduction. On a piece of paper lay them out like this:
Should include the main parties involved in the research.
Should include the main ideas and concepts being discussed primarily your thesis.
Should explain how this research is relevant to modern day, it may be a good idea to allude/relate your thesis to current events. It also refers to the time period of the paper’s information.
Should mention where this research was conducted as well as any environmental or locational points?
Should also describe your method of research and how you gathered your information and formed your thesis.
Once you have filled in these blanks with the relevant information all you have left to do is re-write it into a fluid introduction. In a long form essay each different W question may have its own paragraph. In a short essay they should be broken down into one summarizing sentence.
If you are having trouble putting together your essay introduction try using this technique. It will help you make sure that your intro includes all of the important information, while also staying focused and on topic.
